This is especially advisable for those of you who have French-Canadian roots but speak no French. Most societies, even if they operate mainly in French, will make every effort to help you, and with a little warning can usually find an English speaking volunteer. A little advance planning can make sure that the money and time you spend visiting the areas where your ancestors settled is well spent.
Many of these addresses come courtesy of David Lepitre who has worked very hard to preserve and promote the genealogy of the Eastern Townships.
